“A Place to Soar” Honors the Sisters of Mercy: Introducing the Mercy Legacy Walk
Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School proudly presents the Mercy Legacy Walk, a heartfelt tribute to the Sisters of Mercy made possible through the "A Place to Soar" campaign. Since the School's establishment in 1861, the Sisters of Mercy have been its steadfast pillars, shaping our school values and nurturing our growth. This walk pays tribute to their enduring legacy. |
|
|
The Mercy Legacy Walk will guide visitors to the new Community Commons, illuminating the Core Values of Mercy Education: Compelled by Mercy, Educational Courage, Inspired by Faith, Principled Leadership, and A Voice for Dignity and Respect. Each Sister of Mercy who has served or graduated from our beloved Academy will also be celebrated with an engraved brick, securing her enduring legacy at the School. Originating in 1831 in Dublin, Ireland, the Sisters of Mercy, often |

called "the walking sisters," broke conventions by taking their mission beyond convent walls to help the marginalized, including the poor, sick, and uneducated. Their exceptional acts of mercy fueled their rapid growth, now counting over 2,200 members in the Americas and 6,000 worldwide. Notably, the last Sister of Mercy to graduate from GMA was Mary Kay Eichmann, R.S.M., a member of the Class of 1967 (pictured below). |

“A Place to Soar” marks a significant milestone, as it's the School's largest fundraising effort and its first major capital initiative in over two decades. Thanks to the generous contributions of trustees, alumnae, parents, and foundations, the campaign has already secured five-million-dollars in commitments toward its seven-million-dollar goal. This includes a one-million-dollar lead gift from the Connelly Foundation, which allowed for the official groundbreaking to take place on September 10, 2023.
The project, spanning 36,000 square feet, includes a renovation of our 1955 cafeteria and the addition of a new wing to provide more expansive indoor and outdoor dining and gathering spaces, academic seminar room, and counseling center. These spaces will foster innovation innovation, |

self-advocacy, leadership, and community connections, all while paying homage to the Sisters of Mercy.
Individual donors or families are welcome to become named sponsors for the walk for gifts of $25,000 or more. Outright gifts, pledges payable over one to five years, and employer matching gifts also count toward sponsorship levels. |

Learn more about the project, explore the new wing, and discover exciting recognition opportunities, from engraved bricks in our new Commons Courtyard to participating in our giant Monarch Butterfly Photo Mosaic to be installed in our new wing. There are countless ways to be a part of this historic flight and to honor family members and classmates along the way. |
